CONNECTICUT INSTITUTE FOR COMMUNITIES INC (CIFC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for families and individuals across Connecticut, is seeking an Infant / Toddler CDA Specialist to support high‑quality early childhood education within our Education, Training & E‑Learning department. This mission‑driven role plays a key part in strengthening classroom practice, promoting school readiness, and advancing health equity for infants, toddlers, and their families. The Infant / Toddler CDA Specialist will serve as a content expert and coach for staff working with children from birth to age three in center‑based programs. Drawing on deep knowledge of early childhood development and the Child Development Associate (CDA) credentialing process, the Specialist guides teachers and assistant teachers as they work toward earning and maintaining their Infant/Toddler CDA. This includes providing individualized coaching and mentoring, modeling best practices in the classroom, and supporting staff in compiling portfolios, writing competency statements, and preparing for CDA assessments. In this role, the Specialist conducts regular classroom observations to assess the quality of teacher‑child interactions, learning environments, routines, and health and safety practices. Using a strengths‑based approach, the Specialist provides constructive feedback and practical strategies to help staff enhance curriculum planning, responsive caregiving, play‑based learning, and positive guidance. The position collaborates closely with education managers and program leadership to ensure that classroom practices align with CIFC’s educational framework, state licensing regulations, and applicable Head Start/Early Head Start performance standards. The Infant / Toddler CDA Specialist also develops and delivers training sessions and professional development opportunities for classroom teams, with topics such as infant and toddler development, trauma‑informed care, social‑emotional learning, culturally responsive practice, and effective family engagement. By supporting teachers in partnering with families, the Specialist contributes to strong home‑school relationships and helps connect families to community resources available through CIFC’s integrated healthcare, education, and residential services. Documentation and data‑informed decision‑making are important aspects of this position. The Specialist maintains clear records of observations, coaching plans, staff progress, and CDA milestones, and uses this information to inform program planning and continuous quality improvement. Participation in interdisciplinary team meetings, community initiatives, and agency‑wide trainings ensures that the Specialist remains aligned with CIFC’s broader mission of community empowerment and comprehensive social services. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced early childhood professional who is passionate about mentoring educators and improving outcomes for very young children. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in infant and toddler development, familiarity with CDA requirements, and a collaborative, relationship‑based coaching style. By joining CIFC, you will work in a dynamic, supportive environment where your expertise helps empower local families and contributes directly to the wellbeing and future success of children in our community.
