Position Function:

Assist the Sr. Associate AD - Sports Medicine in the delivery of physical therapy services to all sports. Assist the Sr. Associate AD - Sports Medicine in athletic training needs for football and other sports as needed. Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate AD - Sports Medicine. Must be a dual credentialed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer or hold a ABPTS certification in sports physical therapy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Sr. Associate AD - Sports Medicine in the delivery of rehabilitation services provided to all sports.
2. Collaborate with staff athletic trainers, team physicians, and other healthcare professionals on the rehabilitation needs for all sports.
3. Collaborate with the Sports Performance team at Football for the rehabilitation services of the football program.
4. Assist the Sr. Associate AD - Sports Medicine in the collaboration between the team physicians and their physical therapy departments.
5. Supervision and mentorship over the Sports Physical Therapy Resident in collaboration with our team physicians.
6. Assist in the athletic training needs for football. This includes direct team and sport coverage.
7. Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Leo Seal and Holliman athletic training rooms. Ensure proper use of equipment and facilities by student-athletes, including adherence to athletic training room time schedules and proper operating procedures.
8. Assist the Sr. Associate AD - Sports Medicine with the prevention and care of student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
a. Maintain computerized health/injury records on supervised student-athletes.
b. Serve as liaison between student-athletes and the team physician. This includes ensuring compliance with team physician instructions.
9. Obtain required continuing education requirements to fulfill state and national certification maintenance.
10. Ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team with the strength and conditioning, sports science, sports nutrition, and sport psychology/counseling staffs.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervision responsibilities over the Sports Physical Therapy Resident in collaboration with our team physicians.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree from an accredited physical therapy doctoral program with one (1) year of experience in a professional/collegiate Division I athletic program as a licensed physical therapist or athletic trainer.


Certification or Licensure Requirements:
Must be a dual credentialed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer or hold a ABPTS certification in sports physical therapy.

Preferred Qualifications:

BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and able to be licensed by the State of Mississippi.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of certain fundamental concepts.
• Ability to work long and irregular hours.
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to work in extreme weather temperatures.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dirt, chemicals, etc.
• Job frequently requires walking, standing, lifting, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
• Requires handling of heavy weight objects up to 100 lbs. on a regular basis and on occasion up to 150 lbs.
• Vision requirement: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
